At our Michigan clinic

Yes, you need to stop using opiates for at least 12-24 hours before you come in for your first appointment for Suboxone.

Taking Suboxone or other buprenorphine medication too soon after other opiates (heroin or pain pills) can cause you to feel sicker, rather than better. Suboxone is best taken when you start to feel symptoms of withdrawal from opiates.

At our California clinic

We do home induction in California, which is a fancy way of saying you take your first dose of Suboxone (buprenorphine) at home after seeing our doctors. This means you don't need to be in withdrawal at your appointment.
